A good stock C5 or C6 (I know yours is a C6, but my dads friend has a C5) should get an easy 14-17 around town, with mid 25ish highway. Provided it's a row your own trans.

My 5.7 Hemi with MDS gets me a good 20 or so combined average, so I can definitely get behind this.

Hahaha you had me real good. Yes you'll get unreasonable MPG for whats under the hood but remember, the minute you start to think it's a prius and start messing around, you might make a widow out of a beautiful young woman out there

My friend's C5 gets about 20ish combined. It has an LS1 with just basic mods, pushing I believe in the low 400 range. On the highway, if I throw the wagon into cruise control, it'll get an easy 26MPG.

Hell, even the SL600 in cruise control gets around 25MPG highway, and that's a hulking V12 with an autotragic.

I need to stop being addicted to smaller engines that rev high!

Revs kill MPGs

There's nothing wrong with the smaller engines. I need them to continue to sip from the pumps so I can take the wagon for a good chug. My sisters Civic with a 1.8L gets low 40s MPG on a really bad day. If she's careful and stays out of it, she'll get closer to 50.

Even my Neon doesn't do too bad either (last I checked it was actually mid 30's).

I just love the sound of two valves per cylinder wailing away from 2k-5k RPM. Sounds so amazing, I need a better exhaust to help me enjoy it more.

I forgot to mention what I meant by smaller engine. The high-revving DOHC 4L in my E90 M3 is small (from a displacement standpoint) to the LS1. But of course displacement doesn't mean much... I get way worse gas mileage. No way I could get 25ish highway! I can't get 14-17 around town either. It's more like 11-14 MPG around town...

Of all of my cars my Vette is by far the most efficient.

I wish more people knew how fuel efficient the Corvette is for the performance you get. You and I know it but most people don't. I bet the average person assumes that Corvettes are less efficient than other sports cars because V8

Just remember the knowledge of the ancestors: "for every Corvette hypermiling to try to get 30mpg there is a Prius flooring it everywhere getting 30mpg."

Tounge and cheek article aside, drive it like it deserves and just take the hit on the fuel costs.

if you keep your foot out of it, you should be able to manage close to 30 MPG HWY. I can get mid 20's and I cruze at about 80-85 and I have a modded ls7. The practicality of these cars is actually pretty incredible. And my insurance is cheap too!

I don't know my vettes well enough and I thought they were screwing me out of a painted top, but I guess there was an option to get just that top? Either way it is definitely functional and light. Also has the dual mode exhaust which was a nice surprise. The Ford dealer I traded with didn't really know the car well enough to advertise that option. Yes I pulled the fuse.

Yes, last I actually went through the numbers, it got 32. After a full oil change, new plugs, and fixing the sway bar link, I could see maybe 1-2 more out of it. That's with Mobil 1 fully synthetic, and 93 octane. The 5spd manual helps a bit too.

I used to pull the fuse too, but then I got a remote that works with the lock button on the car or the fob. I combined that with having the "open" side of the mufflers turned into straight throughs. Together it's by far my favorite mod. You can even program it to do the open-close at custom RPMs. Mine open at 2600 and close at 2000. 5minute install and you'll love it!
